Tom and Katie certainly got some good mileage out of those Suri in Vanity Fair pics. In recent months, whenever we've felt the urge to insinuate that their love is anything less than legitimate, we flash back to those wide cerulean blue Suri eyes and promptly sigh and coo softly to ourselves, like a gay pigeon might. And thus, we've been spared the usual Tom and Katie "we're everso in love!" assertions; however, with the advent of Shiloh pics and the nonstop coverage of Kingston Rossdale bedecked in the most delectable infant finery, the pair must sense that the Suri forcefield is waning, and so Katie has hit the magazine circuit to assure us anew of their rapture. Or crapture, whichever.
Katie appears–shockingly, looking her age and not all trussed up in dowdy velvet and bows like Brooke Astor in her latter years–on this month's cover of Bazaar. Inside, she espouses the joys of being a trophy wife and Ronnie Spectoresque exile. A Socialite's Life has some blurbs:
Katie talks about how great her life is: "I feel very lucky. I have a husband and children that I adore. I have a career that I really love. When I sit back and reflect, it's – wow! I am very grateful. Tom makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world and has since the day I met him. I love being with him. I love calling him husband."
Katie talks about her first date with Tom: "Here in Los Angeles, my first motorcycle ride…to the beach. It was amazing and fast. I was in love from the moment that I shook his hand for the first time."
Katie talks about motherhood: "I felt so proud to be having a baby and so excited. And I felt closer to other women-to my sisters, to my mom. I felt empowered, like 'I've given birth. I did it! There's nothing I can't handle… I've really enjoyed this time that I have taken to be with Suri as well as the challenges of the first couple of months: feeding and pumping, learning to decipher what each cry means-is she hungry? Is she tired? Does she need a fresh diaper? And figuring out how to really help her."
Aside from the sad note that Katie thinks Tom Thumb is still going to allow her to have a career, this interview offers some chilling insights into his wooing style. For a first date, he took her zooming off on the back of his motorcycle. Hey, just like Top Gun! And then, he had her at "hello". Zowee, just like Jerry Maguire! What Katie doesn't seem to realize is that Tom has never actually courted a live human female before–he simply takes bits and bobs from his scripts, patches them together, and comes up with a recipe for romance. Let's just hope she gets a clue before he brings home Rebecca De Mornay and her pals to make some extra cash for Suri's college fund.
