Sometimes an actor doesn't need to closely resemble a famous person to pull off portraying them in a biopic. You wouldn't look at Joaquin Phoenix and think, "Is that Johnny Cash?" But he did an admirable job pretending to be the Man in Black in Walk the Line. But some sort of vague resemblance is definitely necessary, something a director and cast of makeup artists, hairstylists, and costumers can mold into that famous figure. You wouldn't want a duck to star in a biopic of Samuel L. Jackson. That would be weird. Also weird? Jamie Foxx playing Frank Sinatra. But pile his name onto the looooong list of possible Franks, because according to IMDb:
Studio bosses are convinced Foxx has the charisma and talent to tackle the role of Sinatra, who died in 1998.An insider tells Britain's Daily Star, "Jamie would seem to be born to the role. Magnificent voice, convincing acting ability – like Frank himself – born the wrong side of the tracks, makes it big against all odds, has his brush with authority. The guy's a gift."
Charisma, talent, magnificent voice, convincing acting abilityóthat all sounds good, but hopefully Jamie also has one hell of a makeup artist. Unless of course Scorsese plans on going the I'm Not There route with this movie. In which case we think Jamie Foxx would be awesome. And for a few of the other portrayals we'd like to suggest Chuck Woolery, Traci Lords, and Spider-Man. Not Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man. The cartoon. We think he'd turn in an interesting performance.
