We know this will come as a complete, out of left field surprise to you, but Neil Patrick Harris, a man who is a well-known fixture in the musical theater scene and who played someone named "Doogie", is gay.
Special note: have you ever notice that if a man goes by all three names, he's either gay or a serial killer? Someone ought to do a sociological study. At any rate. following a report on canada.com that Harris was gay, dating Broadway actor David Burtka, and had pulled strings to get Burtka a guest spot on How I Met Your Mother, Harris's publicist issued the statement:
"He's not of that persuasion."
However, "not of that persusion" must have meant "not prone to boyfriend nepotism", because on Friday, Harris released his own statement:
"The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.
"So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
We can't stop laughing. Not because the statement is particularly funny–it's actually quite heartwarming and honest–but because we keep picturing the words being typed on a blue 1989 computer screen while Vinnie Delpino pokes his head in the window yelling, "Doog! Yo, Doog!"
Fans of the Doog will most certainly enjoy the view at MaleStars.com.
